Gemstone sourcing
sourcing
The search for one particular gemstone, found through the trade to match a client's brief.
The stone you have in mind, found for you.
Many of the finest stones never reach a website. A sapphire with exceptional color, a matched pair for earrings, an unusual cut or a size that is hard to find: stones like these change hands within the trade before they are ever listed. Sourcing is how we reach them for you.
Tell us the stone you have in mind. We search our network of trusted partners, set aside everything that falls short, and bring you only the stones worth your time.
We also work with clients outside the US.
The process
How Sapphire Row Sourcing Works
From your first description to the stone in your hands.
Your Brief
It starts with the stone you have in mind.
Tell us the species and color, the shape and size, any lab report you would like, and your budget. If the stone is going into a piece of jewelry, tell us about the setting too, so we look for proportions that will sit well in it.
Together we turn it into a short written spec that you confirm: carat range, a color reference, clarity, treatment, origin, any lab report, and an agreed price range. Not sure of every detail? We can talk through the balance of color, clarity, size and price with you. If a price cannot be met in today's market, we tell you plainly before any search begins.
The Search
We go to the trade on your behalf.
We work directly with trusted partners and send your spec to those best placed to fill it.
Each search begins with a sourcing fee: $150 for stones under $5,000 and $350 for stones at $5,000 and above. It is paid when you submit your request and credited in full toward your stone when you buy. If we decline a request before any work begins, the fee is refunded, and if we find nothing close to your spec, measured against the color reference and grades we agreed in writing, we will talk with you about a refund.
Every stone that comes back is judged against your spec before it reaches you: a stone that is too dark, shows a window, carries an eye-visible inclusion or lacks brilliance is set aside. We keep you updated while the search goes on.
Your Options

Because we source the stone for you, we can share additional photos and video before you decide.
Each option comes with its own details
Your Stone
When the right stone appears, we move quickly.
When we find a stone that fits your spec, our partner holds it for a short time and we give you an exact deadline in your own time zone. Before that deadline, you can secure the stone by paying our invoice, or pass on it.
If you would like a new lab report, allow one to two weeks; we agree on the timing and the cost with you first.
A sourced stone is found for you alone, so it is a special order and final sale. That is why we make sure you have the photos, video and details you need before you decide. Would you like it set? Our bespoke service can design a piece around it.
